Orkney folklore

Folks, no travel news this morning but just wanted to tell you about this book I am reading called The Orkneyinga Saga, a history of the Earls of Orkney, written in 1200AD. It's described as "an intriguing fusion of myth, legend and history" with Orkney as the central place of all the action, which seems to involve a whole lot of treachery, barbary and fighting.

The characters in the saga have such colourful names as Eirik Blood-Axe, Halfdan Long-Leg and Thorfinn Skull-Splitter....

.... and my favourite, Einar Buttered-Bread who really, can ONLY have been very similar to this character Hagar the Horrible!
