Quiet contemplation

Well, I've just woken up to find that things have just gotten worse and worse in Victoria as a consequence of the bushfires.  So many people have died.  So many homes have been lost.  It truly is like hell on earth.  Once again, nature has shown its full force and despite everything man has created and designed and built, nothing can stop the roar of the flames on their path.  The news is so devastating and I want to do something to help, but what can you do for people who have lost everything and worse, who have lost their lives or their loved ones?  And I haven't even started thinking of the wildlife ....  The heat has been so intense in Victoria, South Australia and NSW last week that many amazing stories of wildlife seeking out humans for relief have been passed about. A friend received an email with incredible photos of a koala coming to someone's house, where they gave it a bowl of water, with these results...

A guy I was talking to in a shop yesterday told me of his friends who were riding bicycles down that way last week and when they pulled over to the side of the road for a rest, a koala came up to them, gripped the leg of one of them and they eventually had to give it water from their own water bottles!  It's just unbelievable.  Now I think of those poor animals and hope they have found some refuge from the inferno...
Despite all this gloom, I DO have happy news however.  I have been asked to be god-mother to Miss Scarlett Siobhan Baker (see photo last post) and I am thrilled because I have not been asked to be an official god-parent for 18 years, since Alana was a baby!  So, as you can imagine, I am Seriously Thrilled.  :o)  Time to take the dog for a walk and appreciate how lucky I am.

You know Jen if we had god parents in the uniting church, your current honarary title would have been official. Miss Scarlett is a lucky girl.
